North American Student Mobility Programs
“I was selected to participate in the North American Student Mobility Program. The college I attended was Washington County Community College in Calais , Maine . I was nervous because I was not very experienced in outdoor activities and the program I would be taking was in Outdoor-Adventure Recreation. However, the instructors at WCCC were very helpful and I quickly learned about canoeing, hiking, biking and other outdoor skills. I also experienced some very cold weather!
I lived with a wonderful Maine family who taught me about their way of life. I returned to Mexico with a lot of new skills that I hope to incorporate into my career. I enjoyed my experience very much and would recommend the program to anyone who is interested in Culture – Adventure Tourism.” ALEJANDRO GUILLERMO
The signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has had a profound effect in Canada , Mexico and the U.S.A. In Education, NAFTA has challenged traditional models by promoting student mobility. The NAFTA goal is to see the creation of tri-national equivalency in professional accreditation. This would support free movement of the labor force across the three borders.
To meet these criteria, the federal education agencies in Canada , Mexico and the U.S.A. have created the North American Mobility Program (NAMP). Under the auspices of the NAMP, consortia of educational institutions from the three countries have been formed; the students from these colleges and universities spend a period of time studying at one another's campuses and they receive academic accreditation for their experience.
The NAMP is open to TTT's Bachelor in Tourism and Bachelor of Modern Languages students who fulfill the following pre-requisites:
Minimum grade point average: 8.0
English language proficiency: 80%
Certificate of good health
Experience in the field of study of the current NAMP project
Ability to procure necessary travel documentation and funding
Ability to excel in new situations
Applications for the NAMP are available at CIM in November and December each year.
