North American Student Mobility Program

“My college, Southern Maine Community College is one of six partner colleges in a North American Student Mobility Program. The consortium creates exchange opportunities for students; I was chosen to travel to Merida , Yucatan , Mexico and study for a semester at Tecnologia Turistica Total. It was an amazing experience! Our group of 19 students from five Canadian and American colleges joined the TTT students in many activities. We also studied Spanish, lived with a Yucatecan family and traveled to many wonderful places. I learned so much about the country and have a different perception of Mexico than I had before living there.

The signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has had a profound effect in Canada , Mexico and the U.S.A. In Education, NAFTA has challenged traditional models and promoted student mobility. The NAFTA goal is to see the creation of tri-national equivalency in professional accreditation. This would support free movement of the labor force across the three borders.
To meet these criteria, the federal education agencies in Canada , Mexico and the U.S.A. have created the North American Mobility Program (NAMP). Under the auspices of the NAMP, consortia from educational institutions have been formed. The students from these colleges and universities spend a period of time studying at one another's campuses and they receive academic accreditation for their experience.
Selection of students to participate in the NAMP is determined by each of the Consortium partners.
Applications for the NAMP are available from your college's International Coordinator.
